IT is D-Day for girlfriend killer, Danis David Konson, 62, today as Justice Lawrence Kamocha is expected to deliver his judgment.
Konson, a Bulawayo building contractor, has admitted to shooting Siphathisiwe Ncube, 28, three times after she terminated their six-year relationship but claims it was an accident.
Konson who is facing murder charges, also turned the gun on police officer Constable Wisdom Matupire, who accompanied him to Tshongogwe Business Centre to meet Ncube and injured him.
Const Matupire could not testify in court as he later died in a road traffic accident.
Justice Kamocha a fortnight ago said he wanted time to prepare his judgment after hearing closing submissions from Angeline Munyeriwa assisted by Gugulethu Ndlovu from the Prosecutor General’s Office and defence lawyer, Robert Ndlovu, of R Ndlovu and Company.
Konson, of Parklands, had plied Ncube with gifts and opened a grocery store for her at Mathetheni Business Centre in Lupane.
Seeing that the relationship was crumbling, Konson bombarded her with letters promising her a good life before she dumped him and he told the court that he did not believe Ncube had left him for another man.
Konson claimed Ncube used to write him letters telling him that she was no longer interested in the affair but the State shot down the allegations.
Prosecutors say Konson did not shoot Ncube because of the shop he had opened for her but for being rejected, hence his actions were intentional.
Konson and Ncube began their relationship in 2008 and in January 2012, the enamoured lover opened a shop for Ncube, which he also helped her run.
In July 2012, Ncube told Konson that she wanted to end the relationship. He tried to persuade her to change her mind without success.
On September 10 last year, Konson went to Jotsholo Police Station and appealed for help in solving the dispute between him and Ncube, telling the cops that they were fighting over a business deal.
Const Matupire, accompanied him to Tshongogwe Business Centre where the alleged meeting was to take place.
It is said the mood quickly changed when Konson saw a half-naked man, Ncube’s new lover, coming out of her room at the grocery store he had opened for her while she was also wrapped in just a towel.
Konson claims he suffered a black-out and pulled the trigger of his CZ 6.35mm pistol, shooting both Ncube and the police officer.
Ncube was shot twice on the head and once on the thigh and she died instantly.
