JUDGMENT DAY SET IN EX-MAYOR GOMBA’S CASE

JUDGMENT has been set for April 24 in the case where former Mayor of Harare, Herbert Gomba, together with Samuel Nyabezi and Munyaradzi Bowa, are facing allegations of criminal abuse of duty.

The court heard that the other accused were the Acting Town Planner and Chief Land Surveyor at the City Council when Gomba was Mayor.

It is the State’s case that between 2019 and 2020, the trio identified and allocated State land to Taringana Housing Consortium.

They azllegedly used a plan number that had been allocated to Youth in Business Trust by the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.

In doing so, the trio allegedly used their offices to show favour to the Taringana Housing Consortium at the expense of the Youth in Business Housing Trust and the State.

The accused persons action prejudiced the State of 381 stands valued at US$135 380
