Judo association ropes in Japanese coach

THE Judo Association of Zimbabwe (JAZ) has engaged the services of a Japanese coach in a bid to improve the sport locally.

JAZ has been in consultation with a number of coaches since last year but decided to settle for the yet to be named Japanese mentor who is expected in the country today. Sydney Chibwayi, the assistant national junior coach, confirmed the development.

He said the coach would be unveiled today.

“I’m not in a position to name the coach but I can safely say he’s from Japan and will be introduced tomorrow afternoon (today). We’ll update you on the developments,” said Chibwayi.

JAZ has set its eyes on major international competitions like the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games next year, this year’s All-Africa Games and the South African Open in June.

Patrick Mutangi is expected to work with the Japanese mentor on the developmental side ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games.
