A MAN who is believed to have walked onto and disturbed a parade of elephants was chased by the jumbos for nearly 70 metres before they trampled him to his death.
Gabriel Shoko (38) from Karibaa��s Nyamakate communal area, along with his female friend Shylock Marovanyika were at a banana estate, Charara Farm when they came across the elephants.
a�?Marovanyika said her friend was chased for almost 70 metres by a herd of elephants. They caught up with him and trampled him leaving intestines hanging out before breaking his legs,a�? said a police source.
The spokesperson for Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority(ZPWMA) Caroline Washaya Moyo confirmed the incident.
a�?A report was received from National Anglers Union of Zimbabwe (NAUZ) that a man was killed by a parade ofA� elephants last Tuesday at round 8.30pm at Charara Farm,a�? she said.
Washaya Moyo added that investigations at the scene showed that the elephants chased the man for close to 70 metres before catching up with him.
She said there were also signs thatA� whatA� could have sparked the unfortunate development is that he walked through the breeding group of 10 elephants.
The ZPWMA is monitoring the behaviour change from the group of elephants within the same area towards human beings.
