The introduction of the junior media club at Nyamakate Secondary brought hope, happiness and inspiration to the club members.

The junior journalists were inspired to learn that correct use of digital tools can be a source of income. Podcasts, for example, are one of the platforms that is being used to make money.

Besides making money , journalism, when done responsibly, can also educate society and help to resolve conflicts within communities.

furthermore, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and school blogs are  platforms being used by young people to entertain, share stories and raise awareness on issues affecting communities.

Central to the discussion which was led by Mr. Masawi was the ethics of journalism. Almost everyone in the digital era loves writing stories and taking pictures. However, this can have adverse effects on the people whose photos are taken as well as their relatives and friends.

By using skills ethically, junior journalists can build trust, grow their audience and turn their passion for story telling into a meaningful career that benefits both themselves and Nyamakate secondary school.
