THE Zimbabwe Junior Squash Championships conclude at Suburbs Squash Club in Bulawayo this morning with the finals for the different age groups.
In an event largely dominated by Harare players, it is an all Harare final in the Under-19 boys final when Innocent Makumba of Royal College goes up against Covermore Mutata of Mount Pleasant High School. In the semi-finals, Makumba conquered Callum Lawton of Hellenic 3-0 while Mutata swept past Crispen Chimbowora of Mount Pleasant High School 3-2.
Lawton and Chimbowora will now meet in a third place playoff.
Bulawayo girls, Dani Cunningham of Petra High School and Jade Pinkny meet in the girls Under-19 title decider.
The boys Under-16 final is being competed for by Harare players, Ethan Porter of Saint George’s College and Tadiwa Chakanyuka of Prince Edward High School.
Polite Mubure from Avondale Primary School in Harare, aged just 12 years old has booked her place in the girls Under-16 final where she will square off against Danai Jongwe of Arundel Girls High School.
Hannah King of Petra High School and Hannah Mannion of Hellenic go into battle in the girls Under-14 final while Kaitlin Craven of Chisipite High School as well as Jade O’Donovan compete for the girls Under-13 title.
The tournament which started last Friday with matches being played at Suburbs Squash Club, Old Miltonians, Bulawayo Athletic Club, Holiday Inn, Hornung Park and Christian Brothers College is being used to select a team to represent Zimbabwe at an inter-provincial competition in South Africa in June as well as the All Africa Junior Championships in Gaborone, Botswana from 30 March to 5 April.
