More households in Chinhoyi will be getting municipal water after the town council used the $4,8 million that it received under devolution to buy an electric motor pump and pipes, and repair other equipment.
The council recently bought an electric motor pump, repaired submersible pumps and repaired pipes and can now deliver water to residents especially in high-lying and newly established locations.
Council spokesperson, Mr Tichaona Mlauzi said although they were yet to meet all the targets, the release of the funds had helped in addressing some of the challenges.
“We managed to buy an electric motor pump for a high lift pump at a cost of $656 420 although we had committed $497 412 for the pump while 30 percent went towards the repairs of two submersible pumps for raw water pumping.
“Procurement of water pipes and their fittings were also done using the devolution funds although volatility of prices affected the purchases. We are waiting for the installation of the pipes,” he said.
The council is also almost done setting up the water reticulation system at St Ives, a newly established location in the town, while construction of Rusunguko extension water reticulation system is still at 15 percent.
Chinhoyi Municipality is also planning to buy a mono pump, non-return valve, more high lift pumps, and vertical turbine pumps once more funds are released.
Renovations and construction of a Covid-19 isolation centre in Mlauzi was also completed using devolution funds.
