JUST IN: Fundira appointed new African Sun board chair

SAFARI Association of Zimbabwe president, Dr Emmanuel Fundira, has been appointed new chairman for the leading hospitality group, African Sun, with effect from last week.

The hotel group said Dr Fundira has served as a non-executive director of the board since 2012.

“The board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Fundira as the chairman of the board of directors effective 20 October 2021.

“He has served as a non-executive director of the board since 2012.

“During this tenure, he chaired the finance and investments and sales, marketing and innovation committees,” said African Sun in a statement.

Dr Fundira holds a BSc in Economics and Finance (Hons) from the United Kingdom, Masters in Business Administration degree in Finance and Strategic Management (UK), PhD in Philosophy in Ecology (UK), and a Diploma in Marketing and is a Fellow of the

Institute of Marketing Management (FIMM.UK).

Meanwhile, the group has also announced retirement of two no-executive directors – Mr Alex Makamure and Nyaradzo Maphosa. The duo was appointed into the board on 17 October 2012 and they served the company for nine years.

“The company would like to thank Mr. Makamure and Nyaradzo Maphosa for their capable leadership and service to the company for the past 9 years,” African Sun Limited has said.

The Group runs a chain of hotel outlets in every major tourist resort and in four out of the five major cities in the country.
