A 23-year-old man from Waterford suburb in Bulawayo allegedly committed suicide by hanging last Tuesday after going missing for five days.

Oliver Muleya allegedly took his life using a rope in a bushy area and was found by a herdman at around 2 PM. Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident.

“We received a report of the incident which happened at Hope Fountain where a man was found hanging on a tree. We are still investigating the matter and we are appealing to the members of the public with any information to assist us,” said Chief Insp Simango

Muleya’s family and neighbours said they did not know why he committed suicide. His brother Mr Murisa Muleya who resides at Four winds suburb said he learnt about his brother‘s death after being called by the police to identify his body after a report of a missing person was made.

“He was found hanging on a tree in the bush in Hope Fountain by a herdman who was herding his cattle around that area. The man is the one who informed the village head and that is when they went to inform the police and we were called to identify his body. The corpse was later taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals,” said Murisa.

Murisa said he was at a loss as to what could have led his brother to take his own life.

“He didn’t say anything to anyone even his brother he was living with about the things that were bothering him. Before he went missing he gave his brother a wallet with money for the month and a phone as the deceased usually does and the brother didn’t suspect anything wrong.”

He  added that he disappeared on Thursday in the afternoon and was found after five days. “He was a person who loved playing soccer and he was a well behaved  but I am confused  what came into him I am puzzled at the moment. We are shocked by a sudden death of our young brother and we are experiencing a huge loss as he was a hardworking person and would do anything to help out his family.”-@TendaiBhebe / @macindie1
