THE National Association of Secondary Heads has vowed to put to an end to age cheating in schools competitions.
In a passionate speech delivered at the official opening of this year’s Copa Coca-Cola at Pamushana High School, Nash acting president Arthur Maposa said the desire to win has resulted in age manipulation finding its way into the schools system.
” The will to go to the upper podium and lift the cup has led to challenges, where in some instances we do have the “win at all cost syndrome -hence the scourge of cheating creeps in. We have had these challenges, but they cannot eclipse our good works,” Maposa said.
The interim Nash boss declared that they will bring an end to age cheating during his stay in office.
“To ride on the current trending statement as a declaration of finality to cheating I say here before you as a preface of my tenure in office “It will not work and yes I will not make it work and I will make the proper age system work finish closed.”
While it has been talked about in hushed tones, the issue of age cheating has refused to go away over the years in some of the country’s age group tournaments, including the prestigious Copa Coca-Cola.
Nyamauru High School of Manicaland, winners of the girls section the 2018 Copa Coca-Cola where they beat Mpopoma of Bulawayo are said to be under investigation on suspicions of having cheated their way to the podium in Zvishavane last year.
