George Maponga in CHIVI
Villagers in Chivi have applauded President Mnangagwa for walking the talk on his promise to make Zimbabwe an upper middle income society by 2030 after fulfilling his promise to avail funding for upgrading the Chivi-Mhandamabwe highway.
The highway was left worse off by potholes following incessant rains, making it hard for vehicular traffic to access.
President Mnangagwa, last December assured the Chivi community that Government would provide funding to complete rehabilitation work on the highway, which is a key route for commerce linking Beitbridge Border Post with central and western parts of the country.
After an initial hiatus occasioned by heavy rains and lack of funds, the contractor upgrading the highway, Bitumen World, has returned on site to prepare for resumption of works.
Chivi Rural District Council chair Councillor Godfrey Mukungunugwa praised the President for fulfilling the promise to upgrade the remaining 12km stretch on the road that links Chivi Growth Point, Chibi Turn-Off and Mhandamabwe Business Centre.
Bitumen World is currently on site doing preliminary repair works while waiting for rains to lull before embarking on the actual upgrading and rehabilitation.
