A prophet from Gweru exposed a rapist uncle who allegedly raped and impregnated his 14 year old niece, a grade seven pupil before bribing her with 50 cents.
This was heard when the man of Ruby Farm in Gweru appeared in court before Gweru Regional Magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa charged with rape. He pleaded not guilty.
According to the court papers, the teen (name withheld) had accompanied her grandmother to a local prophet only known as Madzibaba Jean. Upon their arrival at the shrine, Madzibaba Jean told the woman that her niece had been raped by her uncle.
On the following day, he took her niece to a different prophet who also echoed the same sentiments.
The teen denied but later opened up to her grandmother on their way home. The matter was reported at ZRP Gweru rural and the teen was referred to hospital where she was medically examined. A pregnant test was also done which showed that she was nine weeks pregnant.
The uncle pleaded not guilty but was however, found guilty following a full trial. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison and three years were suspended on condition of good behavior.
