A 21-year-old University of Zimbabwe (UZ) student is appealing for financial assistance for an emergency operation to remove a tumour which developed on his right shoulder.

Steve John Mutapiri was diagnosed with the condition four years ago and has been getting treatment at Karanda Mission Hospital in Mashonaland Central where he was previously operated on without success.

“Two weeks after the operation, the tumour grew bigger and more painful until now,” he said.

Steve said he was forced to suspend his studies at UZ where he was a second year student studying Civil Engineering.

Steve is currently staying with his older brother in South Africa who took him to some public hospitals in that country, but he could not get help owing to the current pandemic.

He was then sent to a private hospital where he was examined.

“The worst part is that the other portion of the bone is gone, so am being operated on by an orthopaedic surgeon,” he said.

Steve said they were not able to raise the required funds for the operation and were appealing to well-wishers for assistance.

They were given a quotation of R150 000

Those willing to assist can contact Mrs R Mutapiri or Steve Mutapiri on +27609317058 (calls only) or Whatsapp number +27746439851.

The bank account number is 9357253654, ABSA Bank SA.
