Just Pro Agro Expands Farmer Contracting in Matabeleland North Amid Push for Agribusiness Growth

Just Pro Agro, a diversified agro-based company, is moving to deepen its footprint in Matabeleland North through new farmer contracting initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural production and creating value in regional commodity supply chains.

The company, which operates across agricultural production, agro-processing, and export of agricultural products, is leveraging out-grower schemes to connect with local farmers and help them scale operations, according to company executive, Mr Jeremy Mnangagwa.

“Our goal is to create sustainable economic opportunities for farmers while ensuring that agricultural outputs meet both local and international demand,” Mr Mnangagwa said in a brief interview.

Just Pro Agro’s strategy emphasises inclusivity and sustainability, reflecting a wider industry trend where private firms are investing in African agriculture to strengthen GDP contributions and supply chain resilience. The firm’s multidisciplinary team of experts is tasked with developing innovative solutions that balance economic growth with environmental stewardship and social impact.

“Humanity’s wellbeing is heavily dependent on agriculture,” Mr Mnangagwa added.

“With global populations growing, it is crucial to ensure that food and agro-based raw materials are available, while maintaining a sustainable balance between human needs and the environment.”

The Matabeleland North program will see Just Pro Agro formalising agreements with farmers, providing access to technical support, improved seed varieties, and market channels, enabling participants to increase yield and integrate into broader regional and international markets.

The company’s broader ambition is to become a benchmark for agro-industry best practices on the continent, with a focus on fostering economic viability and long-term sustainability. Analysts say initiatives like these could reshape agribusiness in Zimbabwe, supporting both rural livelihoods and the country’s export potential.

As Africa’s agricultural sector increasingly attracts private investment, Just Pro Agro’s moves in Matabeleland North signal a concerted effort to merge profitability with sustainability while contributing to Zimbabwe’s agricultural GDP.
