ZIMBABWE Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) chairperson, Justice Matanda-Moyo, has warned the country’s top court officials to desist from corrupt activities.
She made the call at the third National Anti-Corruption Strategy Steering Committee meeting held at a local hotel yesterday.
Justice Matanda-Moyo said all court officials involved in corruption should stop that behaviour and promote justice for everyone.
“I urge all court officials to desist from the corrupt behaviour of receiving bribes from corrupt people at the experience of innocent citizens.
“We should make sure that our hands are clean first, and we can never eradicate corruption when our hands are dirty as well.
“Our main goal is to make sure that justice in this country should never be for sale.
“The day justice is for sale we are doomed as a country,” she said.
Justice Matanda-Moyo said she was disappointed by results of a survey done by Transparency International Zimbabwe which pointed to top officials as the most corrupt in Zimbabwe.
“According to a Transparency International Zimbabwe survey, our court officials are now very corrupt and it is the highest sector which comes top in corruption.
“I am worried by the situation right now because if our courts are corrupt, there is no way that we can defeat corruption,” said Justice Matanda-Moyo.
She added: “I urge our court officials to promote justice for everyone and refuse to be blinded by corrupt people.
“We can’t deal with corrupt cases with corruption, but we should promote justice for everyone.”
