VICTORIA Falls-based songstress JustLeo (born Leopatra Reid) has kick-started her year with a taste of good music, as she soothes her fans’ appetite following a long period of not releasing music.
JustLeo dropped her second single titled Sanabwelela, which was produced by Mokoomba’s Trust Samende at Kulcha Houz Studios.
The Afro-Fusion song done in Chewa/Nyanja, is a true statement that signifies the artiste’s return in music, as she delivered the song full of intimacy and passion.
JustLeo said the track reflects real-life experiences, unspoken struggles, and the stories that are experienced in most communities, all of this expressed through a sound rooted in African tradition.

“Sanabwelela, which means ‘they never came back,’ is a moving song that explores loss beyond physical absence.
“While framed around the idea of war, the song reflects the unseen battles many people face, including mental health struggles, gender-based violence, and emotional withdrawal.
“Inspired by real stories within our communities, through this song, I help to comfort those who want to honour their loved ones who were lost through depression.
“It is a sound that is meant to heal those left behind.
“Through this song, I invite listeners to reflect, empathise, and check in on one another, reminding them that compassion and awareness can save lives,” said JustLeo.
As she returns exactly two years after dropping her first single, JustLeo said the much-needed break gave her an opportunity to work hard in order to produce good music.
“My recent quiet period wasn’t silent. It was a season of reflection and creation. Behind the scenes, I have been crafting original music that will ignite the year with fresh energy and unforgettable sound.
“This year, I will take Zimbabwe by storm, sharing my music far and wide while proudly celebrating the languages, culture, and stories of my community. Those who love authentic music must be ready to experience massive fireworks,” she said.
JustLeo started her music journey as a teenager, performing with various cover bands in the resort town of Victoria Falls, where live music and community shaped her sound and confidence on stage.
In 2023, she was inspired to step out as a solo artiste, and she began telling her own stories through original music.
Her journey began with the debut single “Kummawa,” released in December 2024. It was produced by Afro-Dance group Djembe Monks. — @mthabisi_mthire
