Kadewere back from injury

ZIMBABWE international Tino Kadewere stepped back into competitive football on Tuesday, a moment that felt bigger than a routine substitution and heavier than the scoreboard suggested.

The 29 year old striker came off the bench for Greek Super League side Aris Thessaloniki, closing a long and testing chapter in his recovery from a serious knee injury that had threatened to stall his career.

Kadewere was introduced in the 63rd minute of Aris’s 2-0 victory over Panetolikos, his first appearance since a devastating training ground setback in October 2025.

The club had earlier delivered grim news, stating, “Unfortunately, the news is not good for Tino Kadewere. According to the MRI results, the Zimbabwe international striker, suffered a torn medial meniscus in his right knee and will undergo immediate surgery.”

The injury landed as a crushing personal and professional blow.

It halted his attempt to re-establish himself at Aris, a club he joined from French side FC Nantes in mid-2025 with the clear aim of securing regular minutes, and it also stripped him of a place in Zimbabwe’s squad for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Before the setback, Kadewere had been widely viewed as the leading candidate to spearhead the national team’s attack.

“It’s a feeling I can’t fully describe,” Kadewere said after the match.

“These past few months have been incredibly challenging, both physically and mentally. To be back on the grass with my teammates, to hear the crowd, it’s the first step. My focus now is on working hard every day to repay the faith shown in me by the club and the medical staff.”
