ZIMBABWE international striker, Tino Kadewere is happy his Olympique Lyon are off the bottom of the French Ligue 1 after clinching a third successive win on Wednesday, a 1-0 home win over Nantes in the final round of matches for the year.
Captain Alexandre Lacazette grabbed the match winner just into the second half, adding Nantes to previous two victims, Toulouse (3-0) and Monaco (1-0).
Lyon were bottom of the league for much of the new season resulting in the dismissal of two coaches.
An interim coach, Pierre Sagre has now led them to three successive victories which took them to 16 points from 17 matches, lying in 15th place in the 18-team league and five points ahead of bottom place Clermont.
Kadewere, who is yet to find the target this season, was introduced in the 82nd minute and continues to get minutes after a frustrating year for his club football.
After the match, Kadewere took to social media to celebrate the good finish to the year.
“3 in a row to finish a very difficult year, but in life there are moments like these. The league has gone on a festive break and matches will resume with Coupe de France matches from January 5.
The good news for Kadewere is that, according to L’Équipe, Sage is set to continue in charge of the club for an extended period.
The former Red Star coach has impressed the board at Lyon including John Textor following a run of much-improved performances including their first successive wins of the season.
Sage was appointed as the OL interim manager following the sacking of Fabio Grosso, who now holds the unwanted record of the shortest managerial stint in Lyon’s history.
Under the World Cup winner, Lyon struggled for any form and found themselves languishing at the bottom of the table. In contrast, under Sage, OL have now moved from the foot of the table and out of the automatic relegation spots, and perhaps more importantly, are starting to win football matches.
