HIGHFIELD Area Zone chairman Prosper Kadewere has criticised the trend of recycling players in the domestic Premier League.

Kadewere made the remarks during the HAZ Chairman’s Tournament held on Sunday at the Zimbabwe Grounds.

It featured eight teams.

Nyerere emerged victorious after a thrilling final against Carlsberg United.

The participating teams included Mining and Rubber, Fiyo Foxes, Paramount, Blue Stone, Takashinga and Highfield Academy.

“If you look at our Premier League, it’s only recycling. Players move from Dynamos to Simba, Hwange and so on,” said Kadewere.

“There is no talent search.

“Our kids are not getting a chance because our coaches are recycling players. Coaches should come to the grassroots and scout talent.

“Coaches won’t bank on young talent because they are afraid of losing their jobs. But this mindset is hindering our development as a country.

“We need our coaches to come and search for talent.”

He praised Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera and Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe for showing faith in young players.

“Coaches like Saruchera should be praised, they give young players at least 20% of game time, which is crucial for their development.

“Man ZIFA and Lloyd Chigowe used to do that as well.

“Our job is to develop talent and let the boys grow but currently there is no where to go. We need to create pathways for these young players to succeed.”

ZIFA board member Kudzai Kadzombe attended the tournament.
