Kadoma Municipality is in the process of crafting a new five-year strategic plan to replace the current one that expires at the end of the year. The new strategic plan is expected to cover the period 2019 to 2024 and will have a bias towards improving the water supply situation in the town.
Kadoma Town Clerk Mr Malvern Dondo said the local authority’s main thrust will be on water, sewer reticulation and solid waste management.
“Our five-year plan is expiring in December this year. We are currently reviewing the old one and seeing how best we can come up with a polished one,” said Mr Dondo.
“Our major focus is going be on water, sewer reticulation system, solid waste management and improved housing facilities,” he said.
Kadoma Residents Association chairperson Mr Wikirosi Mutizira said water is indeed a priority for residents.
“Residents are much concerned about improved water situation in the city, especially after reported cases of typhoid and cholera that have been reported this year.
“However, we also feel roads should be given top priority in the next five years as they are in dilapidated state”, he said
“They are now death traps for both motorists and pedestrians.”
Mr Mutizira also took a swipe at council for failing to update residents on previous strategic plans. Failure to give residents an appraisal of how the previous plans have fared, he said, is one of the factors working against progress.
“In most cases, we are failing to achieve our goals due to lack of feedback and proper communication between residents and council,” he said.
