The same period saw an increase in armed robbery cases with people losing valuables including cellphones, cash, laptops and gold in some instances.Speaking at the Kadoma District Service Charter re-invigoration at the weekend, ZRP officer commanding Mashonaland West province Senior Assistant Commissioner Rangarirai Mushaurwa said there was a need for the police to act to fulfil its mandate of ensuring peace and security.
“With the help of people in this district, Kadoma has recorded a significant drop in crime but of concern to us has been the increase in rape cases and those plain robberies where people are using force to take away people’s things,” she said.
Police reduced crime by 11 percent during the period although rape and robbery cases were on the increase.Snr Asst Comm Mushaurwa urged residents to work with the police to address the situation. She said police would not tolerate any form of violence.
“Whether in the home or in politics we do not tolerate violence of whatever form. We call for peace before, during and after our harmonised elections. We want to shame our detractors and the devil by holding our elections in a peaceful manner,” she said.
Officer commanding Kadoma district Chief Superintendant Israel Makuvaza said the successful implementation of the Service Charter hinged on the support of the community.The event brought together stakeholders, including senior officers from other provinces.
