KELVIN KAINDU will not be on the bench again when Highlanders host Harare City in the Bob@90 Super Cup elimination match at Barbourfields tomorrow.The Zambian gaffer was not on the bench when Bosso crashed 0-4 to the Harare side, which ended their championship hopes, at Rufaro last year.
Kaindu sneaked out of the country this week and his assistant Mark “Duvillard” Mathe will be in charge against the Sunshine City Boys.
“We don’t use names but performance during training when selecting the team so on Sunday our new players will be selected barring any injuries,” said Mathe.
“Everyone is fighting for his place and the spirit is positive which is pleasing.”
Bosso have signed Welcome Ndiweni, Charles Sibanda, Joel Ngodzo, Khumbulani Banda, Valentine Ndaba, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Rahman Kutsanzira and Charles Chindungwe and there are reports that Alick Marime could join as well.
Harare City coach Bigboy Mawiwi believes pressure will be on the Bulawayo giants, whose supporters will accept nothing other than an emphatic victory, saying their buying spree has spiked hopes among their fans.
Mawiwi believes Bosso have turned into a scary machine.
“Without any doubt, Highlanders are a scary lot this season judging by their acquisitions so far and meeting them requires a lot of courage,” said Mawiwi.
“However, expectations from their fans are also very high something which might haunt them but as Harare City, we are not scared of them.
“Playing them on Sunday will give us a perfect opportunity to gauge our strength. At the moment we have no team to talk about because our pre-season started just four weeks ago. We don’t have international stars like them and Dynamos.”
The Sunshine Boys themselves have eight new faces who include Arnold Chivheya, Tafadzwa Chimwemwe, Timire Mamvura, Misheck Mburayi, Benson Maglas and Francisco Zvikumbawire.
Gate charges for the match have been pegged at US$3 for the rest of the ground tickets, US$5 for the wings and US$10 for VIP.
Spokesman for the organising committee, Charles Mabika said they have stuck to last year’s gate charges in a bid to attract more fans.
Highlanders fans are expected to come in their thousands to look at their new stars.
Mabika said in the event of a stalemate after regulation time, which is highly unlikely, the two teams will go straight into the dreaded penalty shootout.
The main curtain-raiser will feature Southern Region legends and a media select.
“The legends have told us that they want to be ruthless because most of the media guys think they know it all and the match will be time to set the record straight once and for all,” said Mabika.
The media select will be made up of Chronicle, Sunday News, Umthunywa, B-Metro, Southern Eye and ZBC Montrose.
