HIGHLANDERS Football Club’s head coach Kelvin Kaindu has expressed shock over the untimely death of fellow countryman Dennis Lota.
Lota, 40, died at his base in South Africa on Tuesday. The former Zambian international was assistant coach at South African Premier Soccer League side Moroka Swallows.
Kaindu played alongside Lota at Zanaco and the Zambian national soccer team. They were together during the Caf A licence course in Zambia two weeks ago.
“I received news of his death early today (yesterday) and it’s really shocking. We were running and doing drills together two weeks ago during the Caf A licence course and for him to just go like that it’s disturbing. My condolences to his family and the nation, it’s a great loss to the Zambian nation indeed,” said Kaindu.
Former Zimbabwe national team skipper Ephraim Chawanda also expressed his sadness on the passing on of Lota.
He posted on his Facebook wall:
“It’s sad that another footballer departs at an early age, rest in peace Dennis Lota.”
Lota played for Zanaco, Nchanga Rangers, Kabwe Warriors and Konkola Blades in Zambia before trekking to Switzerland where he turned up for FC Scion and later headed to South Africa where he played for Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu.
Reports from South Africa suggest that Lota fell ill on Sunday and was taken to hospital where he died.
The 40-year-old played at four Nations Cup tournament finals in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002.
