THEY have called in a pastor. Now they are praying for a miracle.
Kelvin Kaindu, former Highlanders boss and man of cloth, has been officially handed what many are calling a poisoned chalice — to rescue a Dynamos side gasping for air near the bottom of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table.
The Zambian gaffer has signed a six-month deal to lead Zimbabwe’s most decorated club out of the jaws of relegation.
It is a short-term contract with one brutal clause: survive or sink.
Following Sunday’s humiliating 3-0 drubbing by Chicken Inn at Barbourfields, DeMbare sit second from bottom with just 16 points from 23 games.
They are in a free-fall.
The threat of relegation is no longer theoretical, it is staring the Glamour Boys dead in the eye.
Kaindu may not be on the bench this weekend as he awaits finalisation of his work permit, but he will be in the stands at Rufaro when Dynamos face high-flying debutants MWOS. And he will be watching, praying and plotting.
But this will not be a one-man sermon.
Former Yadah boss Thomas Ruzive has been spotted around the camp, seen in what appeared to be tactical discussions with striker coach Takesure Chinyama, signalling the possibility of a new-look bench.But not everyone believes Kaindu is the answer.
Club legend Murape Murape issued a stinging warning:
“Kaindu, you’re walking into a minefield. The leadership here chews up coaches for breakfast. Maybe your Zambian links with DeMarriot will protect you, but this is not just a job. It’s a political warzone.”
Murape also accused the club of altering its constitution to allow foreign coaches to take charge, a move he says has divided the fanbase.
Adding to the growing storm, former title-winning coach Kalisto Pasuwa broke his silence with a searing rebuke:
“You cannot live on the name Dynamos alone. We used to be ahead of Sundowns and Mazembe. Now no one talks about us. That should tell you something.”
Pasuwa, who won four straight league titles between 2011 and 2014, warned that unless the leadership wakes up, Dynamos will vanish into the dustbin of football history.
Kaindu may be a pastor. He may even be a tactical genius. But what he needs right now is divine intervention.
Because if this mission fails, Dynamos will not just be relegated from the league — they will be relegated from greatness and Kaindu will go down in history as the man who was at the helm when the “titanic went down!”
