HIGHLANDERS coach Kelvin Kaindu is embracing the international break, calling it a crucial chance to re-group, refocus, and reignite the team’s campaign after a stuttering start to the season.
With the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League on pause until June 13 due to the FIFA international match window, clubs have a brief window to reassess. Zimbabwe’s Warriors will use the break to play friendly matches in Morocco, while back home, coaches like Kaindu are seizing the moment to make tactical and physical adjustments.
“The break gives you a few days to work on areas that need improvement,” said Kaindu. “It also gives you more time to condition your team both physically and psychologically.”
Highlanders head into the break sitting ninth on the table with 19 points from 14 games. They trail unbeaten league leaders MWOS FC by 11 points, while Simba Bhora sit second with 26.
Bosso’s recent form has been a concern. They’re win-less in their last three matches, having lost 2–1 to ZPC Kariba, followed by a 1–0 defeat to Herentals and a 1–1 draw against rivals Dynamos. Despite flashes of potential, consistency continues to elude the side.
Kaindu hopes the pause will serve as a mental and physical reset for his squad, allowing players to recover from fatigue and minor injuries while helping the technical team sharpen strategy for the matches ahead.
The timing of the break also aligns with the upcoming mid-season transfer window, set for July 1 to 31. Kaindu revealed that the club has already begun scouting possible additions to strengthen the squad.
“As for the window, it’s either you lose or gain players. We’ve identified a few young players and hopefully we’ll have a closer look at them during this period,” he said.
Highlanders will return to league action with a high-stakes clash against defending champions Simba Bhora at Barbourfields Stadium. They’ll then travel east for a test against Manica Diamonds before rounding out the first round with a Bulawayo derby against Chicken Inn.
