Kaizer Chiefs confirm Manqele interest

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed their interest in the international striker Edward Manqele as they continue to scour the market in search of reinforcements. Both club officials and coach Stuart Baxter confirmed that Chiefs have approached Mamelodi Sundowns about a possible transfer of the striker, who is currently on loan at Moroka Swallows.

It follows a similar bid for Lebogang Manyama of Ajax Cape Town as Chiefs seek to strengthen their squad for the upcoming African Champions League.

Rumours about a Chiefs approach for Manqele have been circulating for days but only now has the club come out and admitted it.
There, was, however, no more detail about the extent or progress of the negotiations.

Manqele joined Sundowns from Free State Stars last season but has been loaned out this season after a disappointing first campaign with the Brazilians.

Baxter said the Manyama deal was not yet over, even after the club last week already announced it had pulled out of the negotiations because Manyama’s agent wanted to take him overseas instead.

Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town had already agreed a deal for the attacking midfielder to move.
Chiefs had a special dispensation from the Premier Soccer League to register new players from December 1-12 with the league, ahead of the January transfer window, so they could register them in time for the upcoming African Champions League.

Registrations for the CAF competition close on December 30.
Following their failure to secure the services of Ajax Cape Town winger Lebogang Manyama, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has admitted he is finding it tougher than expected when it comes to recruiting new players to Naturena.

The reigning Absa Premiership champions are eager to boost their squad ahead of next year’s Caf Champions League which they will begin against Namibian outfit, Black Africa, on the weekend of February 7-9.

According to a report on the Kick-Off website, club management assured Baxter that there is a budget for increasing their playing options but the former Bafana Bafana mentor stated that signing players is easier said than done, especially considering that other teams are aware of their January transfer window intentions.

It was also speculated on Tuesday that current Moroka Swallows striker, Edward Manqele, could join the Glamour Boys.
Manqele is currently on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and Chiefs team manager, Bobby Mutoung, admitted their interest in the former Free State Stars forward.– Sport24.
