KAMATIVI Mining Company has launched a community-based initiative to source fresh produce and livestock directly from local farmers, in a move aimed at stimulating the regional agricultural economy.
In a statement, the company invited community members with fresh vegetables, chickens, sheep, goats or cattle available for sale to register their interest.
“This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to support local farmers and boost our community’s agricultural economy,” read the statement.
The company has designated a representative, identified as Robert Mfuni, to co-ordinate the programme and provide information to interested participants.
The initiative is expected to provide a stable market for small-scale farmers and livestock producers in the Kamativi area, where access to reliable buyers has historically been limited.
“We look forward to working together to grow our local market and strengthen community partnerships,” read the statement.
The move comes at a time when many rural communities are seeking alternative income sources amid fluctuating agricultural markets and limited infrastructure.
Local reactions to the announcement have been largely positive.
Several farmers said they hope the programme will bring consistency to local sales and improve their earnings.
Kamativi Mining Company operates in Matabeleland North province and has been engaged in various corporate social responsibility programmes aimed at improving community welfare.
