Kamativi Mining Company to exhume 14 graves for mine expansion

KAMATIVI Mining Company plans to exhume and rebury 14 graves within its opencast pit area to pave way for the expansion of mining operations in Hwange East.

In a public notice issued in terms of the Cemeteries Act [Chapter 5:04], the company confirmed the move as a necessary step in progressing its mining development plans.

“Notice is hereby given by Kamativi Mining Company, in accordance with the Cemeteries Act, Chapter 5:04, to relocate /rebury 14 graves in the opencast pit area at Kamativi Mine, located in the Hwange East constituency,” the company stated.

“This action is necessary to facilitate the expansion of mining operations.”

The company is expected to work closely with community leaders, affected families, traditional leaders and relevant authorities to ensure the relocation is handled with cultural sensitivity and legal compliance.

The planned expansion is part of broader efforts to revitalise operations at the historic Kamativi Mine, which is rich in lithium and other minerals.

The mine has attracted significant investor interest as global demand for critical minerals continues to surge.
