The body of national hero Cde Kumbirai Kangai will be flown to his rural home in Buhera today and to Manicaland provincial capital Mutare later in the day to allow his kith and kin to bid him farewell before his burial at the National Heroes Acre tomorrow.
Family spokesperson Mr Reward Kangai said in an interview yesterday that Cde Kangai’s body was expected in Buhera between 9am and 10am. “Cde Kangai’s body will be flown to Buhera tomorrow (today) and it is expected to arrive around 10am,” he said.
“The body will also be taken to Mutare at Queens Hall for viewing by the public.”

Thousands of people are expected to throng the National Heroes Acre tomorrow for Cde Kangai’s burial.
A former Cabinet minister, Cde Kangai (75) collapsed at his Harare home on Saturday morning and was rushed to Corporate 24 Medical Clinic where he later died.

Cde Kangai was a veteran of the war of liberation who was a member of Dare reChimurenga that was charged with the responsibility of prosecuting the liberation struggle to its conclusion.

He was born on February 17, 1938 in Buhera and did his primary education at Makumbe Mission before proceeding to Zimuto Secondary School where he expressed keenness in fighting the colonial regime, a move that always saw him running into trouble with the school authorities.

Cde Kangai joined the National Democratic Party in 1959 and when the party was banned, he joined Zapu. He was one of Zanu’s founding members in 1963.
