The memorial service for national hero Cde Kumbirai Kangai, who passed away in August, is slated for Saturday. A former Cabinet minister, Cde Kangai died at a local clinic after he collapsed at his home in Harare. He was declared a national hero and was interred at the National Heroes Acre due to his immense contribution during the country’s liberation struggle.
Family spokesperson and widow to the late nationalist, Mrs Miriam Kangai, said the memorial service would take place at his Borrowdale residence.
“The Kangai family also takes this important opportunity to advise that a memorial service for the late Cde Kangai will be held at number 25 Glen Forest Road in Borrowdale. “The service will commence at 12pm until 6pm.
We thank President Mugabe and Amai Mugabe, Vice President Joice Mujuru, Senior Minister of State Simon Khaya Moyo, Honourable William Mutomba, among many notable people, for their immense support and sympathy following the untimely death of my husband,” said Mrs Kangai in a statement.
Cde Kangai was a veteran of the liberation war who was a member of the Dare reChimurenga that was charged with the responsibility of prosecuting the liberation struggle to its conclusion.
