Kapenta deal nets sales manageress

Esther Myers (52), a sales manageress with Corvan Enterprises, took the money and sent the company’s merchandiser to Mozambique to buy her kapenta before using other employees to re-pack them for resale to various customers.
Myers appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini charged with corruptly concealing from a principal, a personal interest as defined in Section 173 (1) of the Criminal Law, Codification and Reform Act.
Myers, who denied the allegations, was granted US$100 bail and is expected back in court on April 10 for trial.
As part of her bail conditions, Myers was ordered not to interfere with State witnesses and to continue residing at her given address until the matter is finalised.
Appearing for the State, Ms Dorah Moyo alleges that on April 10 last year, Myers stole US$50 000 from Corvan Enterprises and sent the company’s merchandiser Edmore Murambiwa to Mozambique.
The court heard that Murambiwa was sent to purchase 60 tonnes of kapenta without the knowledge of the company’s director, Ms Corrine Van Rooyen.
It is alleged that Murambiwa took four days to transport the kapenta to Zimbabwe.
When he arrived with the kapenta, the State alleges that Myers used the company’s employees to repack her kapenta which she later sold to the company’s clie-nts without Van Rooyen’s knowledge.
The company suffered a total prejudice of US$50 000 and nothing was recovered.
