NORMALCY is expected to return at Royal Classic after coach, Mapiye Kapinde backtracked on his threats to quit the team due to some squabbles at the club.
Kapinde walked away from the team last week when they were preparing for their game against Mushowani and club owner, Ranganai Chatura who is also the team manager had to take charge of the match. They went on to lose 0-6.
Kapinde watched the game from the sidelines alleging they were not agreeing on the type of play they want implemented at the club with Chatura. But Chatura dismissed the claims insisting the coach had been attending to personal commitments which prompted him to be in charge of Saturday’s match.
And yesterday Kapinde said he had resumed his duties after the two met on Tuesday and agreed that they would focus on ensuring that the team remains in the league this season.
“I had wide consultation with the community and I felt that the team is struggling. It’s a community team and we need to help groom the young players. So I had to go back because we need to help these youngsters develop and become better players in the future.
“I think there is a way forward, the environment and the working conditions are now okay. We met yesterday (Tuesday) with the director (Chatura) and spoke one on one. Our relationship is back to normal. The situation is that we need to survive that’s our main priority. We need to produce competitive players who can compete at a higher level. We can’t play in lower leagues, we need to remain in Division One for competition,” said Kapinde.
