MUSHOWANI Stars’ leading goal scorer Idilisa Kaponda is fancying his chances of winning the first Player of the Year award introduced by the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league this year.
He has so far scored five goals for Mushowani, who are among the leading contenders in the championship race.
The Mushowani striker began his journey at Chitungwiza Academy before moving to Mukwasine in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One league during the transfer window period last year.
He then moved to Mushowani this season.
Kaponda said since he was new at the club, he was just trying to prove himself and it has all worked out well for him.
“It was so good since I was new at the club. It was my first time to be at the club so I was trying to do something good for the club.
“I am looking forward to doing more, I am looking for more goals. I must also keep working very hard to compete for the award. I am aiming for that award. It’s a motivation because most players were saying they are just playing for the future, but now we have more to play for.
“We have something to play for and as a new player I am looking forward to it,” said Kaponda.
The 23-year-old forward said teamwork has helped him and boosted the team’s challenge in the championship race.
