Kapowezha eyes Zim talent

“I am gratified by this appointment. To me it is an honour to contribute to the club which was my last home during my playing career. Spending 15 years playing in South Africa added value in me and now it is time I pay back what I earned.
“Basically my duties as a technical and welfare manager involve contributing to team selection, to ensure travel logistics are in place, attend to individual players’ welfare and I also head the club’s developmental             structure.
“Our developmental structure has former Zimbabwe Saints coach Steven Nhira as our Under-17 coach and we are looking at identifying talent both in South Africa and obviously in Zimbabwe and this is the path that will open avenues for our local boys,” said Kapowezha.
FC AK was once home to former Warriors stars Alois Bunjira, Charles Yohane, Edelbert Dinha, Edzai Kasinauyo, Evans Gwekwerere and former Railstars goalkeeper Ndodana Sibanda.
“With a better understanding of Zimbabwe soccer we will be able to rope in promising talent from our mother country as part of promotion the budding players. We will do it within the confines of football statutes in South Africa.
“This club has been home to Edzai, Alois, Evans, Charles, Edelbert and Ndodana who have acquitted themselves well.
“They made an impact and that what the authorities here have said they will accommodate Zimbabwe players,” said Kapowezha.
The Kadoma-born star who moved to South Africa in 1997 described his career as fruitful, scoring 33 goals in over 300 matches for AmaZulu, Ria Stars, Wits University, City Pillars and FC AK.
“As a midfielder I am happy I scored 33 goals in close to 300 matches and even my contribution to the Young Warriors. It is unfortunate I never made it into the senior national team. I would have loved to don the Warriors stripes on merit,” said Kapowezha.
