IN a bid to bring more professionalism to karate as a sport, the Zimbabwe National Karate Federation have appointed a fully-fledged executive committee.
The federation, who came into effect in 2020 as representatives of full-contact karate, are making progress as they have since amended their constitution to be in line with that of the World Karate Union.
ZNKF, who parted ways with Zimbabwe Karate Union that was expelled from the World Karate Union last year, have put more emphasis on the need to promote women in the sport.
ZNKF resolved that president Joe Rugwete will be responsible for strategic development of the sport while Morgan Flight is the finance director and his role will be to oversee the federation’s finances.
Secretary general, Tirivenyu Mutema, will double up in the disciplinary and management commission.
Also coming on board is executive committee member, Chipo Mashingaidze, who will be responsible for media, marketing and women in sport position.
Technical Director, Fradson Shavi, will be responsible for the technical, referees and athletes commission.
Mutema said they are looking forward to the revival of the sport which had been under threat from being barred by world board for non-compliency.
“Our aim is to revive the sport and make sure that it reaches all corners of the country and make sure that we identify talent. There are some places which has talent but not enough was being done to unearth it.
“We resolved to create clusters that shall be managed by different members whom we have granted full authority to supervise members of the executive committee,” said Mutema.
