Karatekas brace for tourney

SIX Bulawayo-based karate athletes have set their targets at being included in the Zimbabwe national team that will compete at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Karate Federation (UFAK Region South) Championships set for Harare.

Zimbabwe will play host to the UFAK Championships at the HICC Exhibition Park from June 8 to 11.

Approximately 500 karate athletes from countries Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe are expected to battle it out at the regional competition.

The Bulawayo-based athletes hoping to make the final cut are Bongeka Mguni, Divine Rwambiwa in the male category and Karabo Mabusa, Natalie Mpofu, Rumbidzai Makamache, and Makanaka Mulopa in the ladies’ division.

The Zimbabwe National Karate Federation (ZNKF) public relations officer for Bulawayo Province Sensei Greatmans Sibanda is confident the local karatekas will be part of the national squad.
