Kariba municipality officials including town clerk Richard Kamhoti and finance director Saratiere Chitenhe who are facing allegations of abuse of authority have been suspended.

Housing director Mr Godfrey Magijani has been appointed as the acting town clerk.

The resolution to suspend the two and appoint the acting town clerk was made at an extraordinary council meeting this afternoon.
Mayor George Masendu confirmed the development.

“Council has suspended the town clerk (Richard Kamhoti) and director of Finance (Saratiere Chitenhe),” said the Mayor.
The two were arrested last week together with Councillor Tendai Mapondera (Ward 5) who is also facing similar allegations.

They are out on $50 000 bail and ordered to surrender title deeds to their properties and passports, not to interfere with witnesses and not to set foot on council premises until the matter is finalised.

On Cllr Mapondera, council is now expected to write to the Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo requesting her suspension suspension.
