admininterview yesterday, a worker, who preferred anonymity for fear of victimisation, said they had run out of patience with management.
“We have been very patient with our employer but time has shown that they do not honour their promises,” he said.
Council secretary Mr Maxwell Kaitano confirmed that the workers had not been paid in the past four months.
He blamed council woes on liquidity probleMr Kaitano said council was working on a package that could see workers getting their salaries. He, however, warned that the strategy would not be sustainable in the long run.
Karoi Town Council has a US$80 000 monthly salary bill.
Mr Kaitano said the salaries owed showed that council had made strides in settling workers’ salaries. Residents and Government departments owe council about $2,5 million.
“Residents are not paying and we are also cognisant of the difficulties they face so we have tried to persuade them to pay without resorting to using legal means to recover the money,” he said.
