Karoi Town Council has embarked on a massive road rehabilitation programme after receiving a $715 662 boost from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration for 2018.

In an interview, Karoi Town chairperson Mr Richard Ziki said resealing of roads had already started. According to information from the local authority’s official website, the town has embarked on a road resealing of a two-kilometre stretch of the tarred road network in and around the CBD.

Mr Ziki said the roads being rehabilitated were Jameson-Chikangwe, BP-TM Pick’n Pay, Roundabout-Eat and Lick, Hotel-Post Office and the hospital road. Mr Ziki said the local authority is targeting municipal status.

“We are aiming to achieve municipality status and we have embarked on massive projects across the town, which include recreational facilities, plan for a town house, proper waste management and improvement on our service delivery system,” he said.

Mr Ziki applauded residents for supporting their plans to achieve municipality status.

“We are so grateful for the support from our residents and we urge them to continue supporting us by paying their rates as that will go a long way in fulfilling our mandate of providing service to the people,” he said.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo recently encouraged councils to effectively utilise funds from the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration, while working closely with legislators.
