KAROI Town Council has embarked on a comprehensive job evaluation exercise targeting its entire workforce, aiming to remove undeserving employees occupying positions beyond their qualifications.
The exercise, which is being conducted by a private consultancy firm, is expected to run until the end of April.
Mayor Alderman Kudakwashe Chigumo said the evaluation follows concerns that some employees were occupying managerial posts without the requisite qualifications, a development that has been affecting operations at the local authority.
“We have engaged an independent consultancy firm to carry out a job evaluation across our workforce to ensure that every employee is placed in a position that matches their qualifications and competencies,” said Ald Chigumo.
He said the process will result in staff members who are holding senior posts without appropriate qualifications being reassigned to positions that suit their skills.
“This exercise is meant to bring sanity and professionalism within council operations. Those who are less qualified but currently occupying managerial positions will be redeployed accordingly,” he said.
Alderman Chigumo said the exercise was part of broader efforts by the council to improve efficiency, accountability and service delivery to residents in Karoi.
The move comes amid growing concerns from stakeholders over the alleged placement of unqualified personnel in key managerial positions at the local authority, which is grappling with fraudulent and double allocations and failure to remit tax to Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) and National Social Security Authority (NSSA).
