A 35-year-old man from Molife Village under Chief Chinamhora has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for indecently assaulting a seven-year-old Grade One pupil.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the offence was committed on November 29, 2025

The child was on her way home after collecting books from a nearby homestead. The court heard that the offender approached the minor and lured her before indecently assaulting her.

“After committing the offence, he fled the scene,” read the statement

The victim later reported the incident to her mother upon arriving home. The matter was subsequently reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The child was referred to Makumbe Hospital for medical examination and a report confirming the assault was compiled and presented in court as evidence.

In a statement, the NPA said sexual abuse of minors is a serious violation of children’s fundamental rights and safety.

The NPAZ urged communities to remain vigilant, promptly report suspected abuse to authorities and actively support efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable children.
