HOSTED by Kart Sport Club, this weekend will see a much anticipated third round of the club’s championship and the Motorsport Zimbabwe ROK Cup Championship with a provisional entry of close to 30 competitors.
The first two race meetings were full of excitement and with the increase in the number of competitors participating, spectators can be sure of some close, competitive racing from the grassroots of motorsport.
“We are excited to see the popularity and growth of our young club across all the classes and are grateful for the support from our members and officials. We continue to develop the club and venue in a bid to make sure we can offer the very best facilities to both old and new members,” said Bobby Van De Linde, club chairman.
ROK Cup Zimbabwe is a prestigious six-round karting championship that runs from March to September and is part of an international global series that is run in 40 countries.
The series features two categories: Kid ROK and Mini ROK.
Kid ROK drivers are aged between 6 and 9 years old and drive karts with 60cc engines that can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h. Mini ROK drivers are aged between 8 and 13 years old and drive karts with 60cc engines that can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h.
The engines in both classes are regulated to comply with international rules to ensure a level playing field for all competitors and result in very close racing.
The ROTAX class, hosted by Kart Sport Club, is suitable for teenagers up to adults. These karts can reach up to 100kph on the 800-metre track and highlights some of the most exciting motorsport talent in Zimbabwe.
“The track and venue are proving to be very popular with karters due to its challenging design and great facilities and we expect to see competitors pushing their machines to the very limit at the upcoming race meeting,” said Kevin Dufty, track proprietor. He added, “We recently added in some new track sections, which gives us the opportunity to use the track in reverse direction and this gives an alternative layout to use, which will add further excitement and challenge all our competitors this weekend.”
The Prokart Class, which was introduced by pole position Karts at the beginning of last year to bridge the gap between recreational and top-level karting, has proved very successful in attracting new talent to karting.
Due to all the karts having equal performance, the class provides very close racing, with drivers thoroughly enjoying the friendly competition.
