KART Sport Club is determined to showcase the sport at its finest tomorrow at their home track at the National Sports Stadium in Harare when they host Round 4 of their club and ROK Cup championship.
While avid motorsport enthusiasts are sure to be in attendance, the weekend leaves track proprietor Kevin Dufty hopeful of attracting not only new fans, but also potential future race drivers.
“Race-days are a showcase of our facility and it’s a great chance to show off kart racing and get new people interested in motorsport, particularly young people who are the future of our sport,” said Dufty.
With memories of past victories and disappointments fuelling the fire, drivers are gearing up for another showdown at the world class Pole Position Karts track – the home of the Kart Sport Club.
In the 125 Max class, which reach speeds of close to 100Kph, tensions are high for championship front runners, with both Zaydaan Savania and Jaedon Masiyanise determined to fight for the overall win in this premier class.
Tawana Shambare, who upgraded to this class at the last race meeting, has laid down his marker and with expectations soaring is hungry for a maiden win.
The Savania siblings, Zayyan and Deanna, made a fine account of themselves in their debut race and are sure to capitalise on the experience gained and move up the pack.
The Mini ROK class for ages 8 to 12 years old has three competitors racing for the championship title.
Seth Rukato, Yaseen Savania and Eli Pilossof have astounded spectators with their great race-craft and sportsmanship. The three have put on a great show of exceptionally close racing and are all vying for the top step, but still remain good friends off track.
Closely following these front runners will be Devin Van de Linde, Matthew Mukori and Eshaan all of whom are chasing podium opportunities.
The winner of the Mini ROK Cup championship earns an entry into the ROK International Super Final held in Italy during October so there is everything to play for in this tight contest. The youngest competitors from 6-9 years old race in the Kid ROK class. At the championship mid-point, Zack Staples leads Rayyan Savania and Elroy Shamu, but the points are too close to call yet and racing is expected to be tight.
The club’s youngest guns Sheunesu Shambare, Manuel Mukori and Jake Edwards are all proving they have the talent to cause upsets on the day.
In the very popular ProKart class, which was introduced as a bridge between recreational karting and kart racing, the competition has proved very competitive. Moe Moosa leads the championship with a comfortable margin, but Shaun Chifamba has improved throughout the season and is currently running second.
Victor Shambare, club chairman said: “Not only are there super trophies up for grabs across the all the classes, but points will also go towards the season championship which adds much anticipation and excitement amongst the competitors. Our spectators will also witness top karting racers in their competitive playing field showcasing a thrilling blend of speed and expertise.”
Racing at the Pole Position Karts National Sports Stadium track will start from 10am tomorrow.
