LONG distance runner Godwin Katakura of Cadence Athletics Club broke Moses Tarakinyu’s dominance of the Tanganda half marathon after stomping to victory in the prestigious race held in Mutare today.

Katakura came second last year but put in a spirited effort this time around to finish his race in one hour, two minutes and 53 seconds ahead of Tarakinyu.

Tarakinyu, who had won the previous three editions of the race, had to settle for second position this year.
Kenyan runners Hillary Kibetchirehiv and Isaach Lancart came third and fourth respectively.

For his efforts, Katakura pocketed US$800.
Speaking after his crowning moment, Katakura said he was overjoyed to finally win the Tanganda race.
“I am overjoyed to finally win this prestigious race after years of falling short.

“I have been competing in the Tanganda marathon for years and last year I came second.

“I thank my coach and teammates for always believing in me and pushing me to be better. It has finally paid off for me. I am now working towards competing in the Victoria Falls marathon and another race in Europe in October,” he said.
