FORMER Zimbabwe Warriors captain, Willard Katsande, has returned to his roots, bringing his South Africa-based Kitoko Academy to Bulawayo for a youth football exhibition match.
The highly anticipated game at Hartsfield Stadium yesterday brought together some of the region’s most promising young talent as Kitoko Academy faced off against the Young Flying Stars Academy (YFSA).
Although Kitoko won the Under-15 game 3-0, the result was not the focus. Katsande, affectionately known as “Salt and Vinegar,” used the opportunity to mentor the aspiring footballers, emphasising the importance of discipline, dedication, and a long-term vision.

Addressing the YFSA players after the match, Katsande stressed the critical role of discipline in their careers.
“What I will tell you is discipline will take you places . . . Without discipline you will not make it in this profession,” he advised.
He also highlighted the importance of the trip for his own academy’s youngsters.

“This is not about winning games but giving these young players the exposure they need to be top players in the near future,” he said.
YFSA director and coach, Collin Nyambiya, expressed his gratitude for the visit.
“We are humbled by Katsande’s words. Having someone of his calibre here motivates our players to believe in themselves and chase their dreams,” Nyambiya said, adding that the event was an “international friendly” for his academy.
