MWOS defender Valentine Katsande says the team is determined to build on the momentum from their 2-1 away victory against Agama on Monday.

Katsande, who joined MWOS last year, has been playing an integral role on the right side of a back three employed by head coach Lloyd Mutasa, alongside Innocent Zambezi and Tafadzwa Nyabunze. He has become a key part of the squad, bringing notable versatility.

With the league still in its early stages, Katsande hailed the importance of the Agama result.

“The win against Agama was crucial for us after losing against Dynamos. It came at the right time, and we are looking to continue on that trajectory,” he said.

Katsande has shown his attacking side, often roving into midfield and adding numbers in attack. He said such roles are not new to him, having played in advanced positions before at Black Rhinos.

“When the opportunity to go forward comes, I always enjoy going into spaces to add an edge in attack. At some point I was tasked to play in advanced roles, which I was able to excel at, and it is still within me,” Katsande said.

Speaking on the team’s targets, Katsande said they are taking it one game at a time.

“So far our aim is to take one game after the other. We need to win games as they come. That’s our goal, to win as many games as possible and avoid losing where we can. If we manage to do that, then it becomes easier to achieve our other targets,” he added.

MWOS finished as runners-up last year to reigning champions Scottland and are expected to improve on that performance.

However, Katsande said the team will not put itself under pressure based on past results.

“This is football, and the past can’t be looked at. We have to focus on the present, give our best and see how everything unfolds,” he said.

After matchday six, MWOS are eighth on the log with nine points, six behind leaders CAPS United.

On Saturday, they host Simba Bhora at Ngoni in a league match. Katsande expects a tough encounter, with Simba Bhora looking to bounce back from defeat.

“They are coming from a defeat and will be seeking redemption, but as a team we have our targets. We want to keep the winning momentum, so it’s game on,” he said.
