Katy Perry turns Super Bowl into fashion affair

FOUR outfits and 22,000 crystals: Katy Perry turned her Super Bowl halftime performance into a fashion show Katy Perry kicked off her Super Bowl halftime show with a lot of pyrotechnics and not just flames and fireworks.

The 30-year-old sported four outfits all designed by Jeremy Scott for the performance that saw her sing a mash-up of some of her greatest hits with cameo appearances by Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot.

The costume changes were coordinated with the transition from song to song, each of which had its own set and new crop of backup dancers.

Moschino designer Jeremy Scott was the mind behind all four of the outfits, the first of which featured three dimensional flames and custom LaDuca booties festooned with 12 600 Swarovski crystals, according to People.

While wearing the fiery dress, the pop princess backed up against Kravitz, 50, as she rubbed up against him while he riffed on his steel strings.

The suave rocker sported a leather jacket and dark sunglasses as they switched from Perry’s hit Roar to I Kissed A Girl.

Katy swapped out her sparkly booties and flaming dress for a star-studded silver gown as she shifted from singing “I Kissed A Girl to Firework”. The costume change also saw her riding an entirely new contraption.

The dark haired beauty was suspended high in the air as she belted out the tune while fireworks exploded behind her giving the illusion that the pyrotechnics were propelling her forward.

She then made good on her promise earlier in the week to have sharks and tigers in her show as when she underwent another costumed change she was joined by costumed underwater predators.

The change saw her move onto another hit California Gurls as she wore a multi-coloured mini dress as a large group of women danced behind her.

She was also joined by special guest Missy Elliot.

The icon belted out “Get Ur Freak On” as Perry danced next to her.

The 90s breakthrough showed off impressive dancing skills as she jumped up and down the stage.

Elliott then broke into her single “Lose Control”.

The Virginia native, known for her single “Shake Your Pom Pom”, had several backup dancers that wore outfits with MISSY written on front.

The rapper was on stage for just under a minute before the pop star appeared again in a silver dress where she was lifted into the air.

It was widely rumoured that Elliott would be joining Perry at the Super Bowl as a surprise guest so in the end it was not much of a surprise.

And as she geared up for her halftime performance at football’s biggest game, Katy Perry went down memory lane posting a throwback photo from her childhood days on her Twitter account on Sunday.

“Today is for this girl,” the pop star captioned the snap commenting on how her big dream of performing for millions is finally becoming reality.

“She had the dream, always believed in herself and her worth.

“Today she is the one smiling (sic),’ she wrote to her 64,3m followers. – TMZ.
