Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba said in Lusaka, Tuesday the three experts had confirmed that Dr Kaunda was recovering and was stable.
Dr Mwaba said the experts were expected to discuss Dr Kaunda’s condition with their counterparts in Namibia before deciding the way forward.
“The team that was sent to Namibia arrived and met with Dr Kaunda and confirmed that he was stable.
“The team is expected to discuss with Namibian doctors on the condition of the former president and decide the way forward,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health spokesperson Kamoto Mbewe also confirmed that the experts had communicated that Dr Kaunda had made good progress and was expected to be discharged tomorrow. Dr Mbewe said the Government would continue informing the nation on Dr Kaunda’s condition.
The Government on Monday dispatched a team of experts who included director of mobile and emergency services Welani Chilengwe, University Teaching Hospital senior superintendent Lackson Kasonka and Dr Kaunda’s long-time physician Chifumbe Chintu to assess the former president’s condition.
Dr Kaunda was admitted in a Namibian hospital on Sunday during his vacation in that country.
Dr Kaunda has continued to play a pivotal role in post-colonial Africa.
