Villagers from Lonely Mine Fatkill village recently benefited from a new water borehole that was made possible by Kavango Resources, a Southern African-focused metals exploration and gold production company.

The village is located within the company’s Leopard South gold exploration project.

The borehole will provide a vital and sustainable source of clean water to the local community, significantly improving the daily lives of hundreds of residents.

The opening ceremony was a vibrant celebration, with the community gathering in large numbers to mark the occasion. The event included music and dancing, and a heartfelt theatrical performance depicting the struggles of accessing water in the past.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kavango Zimbabwe Chairman, Mr Thamsanqa Mpofu, expressed the company’s commitment to working alongside host communities.

“Access to clean water is fundamental to health, dignity, and opportunity. We are honoured to be part of a project that will benefit people for generations to come.

“The ceremony was fantastic and a pleasure to attend, and it is clear how much this means to the local community,” he said

The borehole initiative forms part of Kavango’s broader community engagement programme, which prioritises infrastructure projects that address essential needs and foster long-term development.

Residents of Lonely Mine Fatkill village shared their joy and relief at the new facility, emphasising the life-changing difference it will make for families, particularly women and children, who previously travelled long distances to fetch water.
