Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Cde Kazembe Kazembe donated US$800 and 10 balls at the inaugural Rushinga Talent Identification Youth Games that were held near Rushinga Business Centre yesterday.
The sport gala which was organised by Rushinga Member of Parliament Cde Tendai Nyabani as well as Mt Darwin East legislator Cde Norman Marikisi whose five wards encompass part of
Rushinga district saw a total of 17 teams participating in both men and women’s soccer as well as netball all drawn from the district’s 25 wards.
Various talent scouters among them local mining company Rock Chemical Filers (RCF) which has a football franchise in Kwekwe flocked Rushinga grounds in search for talent.
Minister Kazembe who is also ZANU PF Chairperson for Mashonaland Central Province brought with him Dynamos head coach Tonderai Ndiraya showing commitment in increasing the chances of locals to play into the country’s top flight league.
In a speech he delivered to thousands of people who had thronged Rushinga grounds whilst handing over the donations, Hon Kazembe who was also the guest of honour at the event urged youths to stay away from drugs and idleness and make use of sport to occupy themselves and take advantages of such platforms to turn into professional footballers.
Nearly USD$2000 was realised from Honorable Kazembe’s donation together with money that had been set aside by event organisers, Cde Nyabani and Cde Marikisi.
The organisers vowed that the money will be channeled towards sustainable projects such as goat keeping which will see clubs being able to buy balls and sportswear for themselves and not to beg.
